Safeguarding at Desford Community Primary School
Children have the right to be cared for, protected and supported, and safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. At Desford Community Primary School, we have a duty of care to ensure that all members of our school community are kept safe from harm.
We are committed to providing a secure, nurturing and supportive environment in which children can learn, develop and grow into confident, resilient and responsible individuals. Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do and forms an essential part of our holistic approach to supporting children’s wellbeing. We are dedicated to protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and to ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
The welfare and best interests of our children will always be our highest priority. As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, there may be occasions when we need to record, monitor and share information with other agencies in order to protect and support a child. Wherever appropriate, we will discuss any concerns with parents and carers. However, if we believe that doing so may place a child at greater risk or not be in their best interests, we may share information without prior consent, in line with our safeguarding duties and statutory guidance.
What Can You Do?
Parents, carers and members of the wider community all have an important role to play in safeguarding children. If you have any concerns about the welfare or safety of a child, no matter how small they may seem, it is important that you share them with someone who can help.
At Desford Community Primary School, our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and safeguarding team are available to listen to and act upon any concerns. Parents, carers and children are encouraged to speak to a member of the safeguarding team if they are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child, or if they have concerns about the conduct of a member of staff.
