Becoming a Musician at DCPS
Our aim is that children who leave our school in Year 6 will be able:
Our children develop the musical skills of singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising and composing music and listening and responding to music. They develop an understanding of the history and cultural context of the music that they listen to and learn how music can be written down. Through music, our curriculum helps children to develop transferable skills such as team-working leadership, creative thinking, problem-solving, decision making and presentation and performance skills. These skills are vital to children’s development as learners and have a wider application in their general lives outside and beyond school.
Music Lessons
In addition to music that is covered through singing assemblies and the school's music curriculum, as is usual in primary schools, there are 1-2-1 and small group lessons available from private teachers or companies that come into school. As they are not school employees, all enquiries about lessons should be made directly with them. Below are some contact details of the musical instrument lessons currently on offer.
