How to respond to a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus

The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms above you must stay at home and arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange.

What to do

Public Health England may view as few as 2 confirmed cases as an indication of need for partial or full school closure.  To avoid this situation, please take note of the following:

  • DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL if they are displaying any of the coronavirus symptoms or have tested positive for coronavirus.
  • DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL if anyone in their household is displaying any of the coronavirus symptoms or has tested positive for coronavirus.
  • DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL if they have tested negative for coronavirus but are still displaying symptoms (as this will help to stop the spread of Flu or other viruses).

In the event of a suspected/confirmed case of coronavirus in your household, contact the following:

  • NHS 111 or 119 service for further advice
  • Go to the following link for details on how to request a test

It is crucial that everyone takes responsibility for reducing the spread of infection in the event of a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus.  Aside from following the usual rules around hand washing, respiratory hygiene and social distancing, the following Government guidance should be followed:
