How to respond to a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus

Symptoms

The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:

  • a new continuous cough
  • a high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms above you must stay at home and arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange.

What to do

Public Health England may view small numbers of confirmed cases as an indication of need for partial or full school closure.  To avoid this situation, please take note of the following:

  • DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL if they are displaying any of the coronavirus symptoms or have tested positive for coronavirus.
  • DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL if they have tested negative for coronavirus but are still displaying symptoms (as this will help to stop the spread of Flu or other viruses).
  • YOUR CHILD SHOULD CONTINUE TO ATTEND SCHOOL if anyone in their household is displaying any of the coronavirus symptoms or has tested positive for coronavirus.
