School Self-Evaluation

Staff and leaders at Desford Primary School are continually evaluating the operation of the school in all its aspects and at all levels.

One of the many sets of criteria against which we assess the performance of the school is Ofsted's School Inspection Handbook (DfE September 2018)

The latest version of this document was published in September 2018 and is the one currently used by Inspectors to grade school performance.

Ofsted inspectors look at the following areas;

  • the effectiveness of leadership and management
  • the quality of teaching and assessment
  • the personal development, behaviour and welfare of pupils
  • outcomes for pupils
  • the overall effectiveness of the school

Our Ofsted Inspection in July 2017 was an external and highly rigorous evaluation of the school by the above categories. We were judged as continuing to meet the standards required to award a "Good " school grading.

The School Development Plan 2018-19 reflects the whole-school development priorities we have set for ourselves as a result of  rigorous self-evaluation  at the end of 2017-18 using the Ofsted School Evaluation Schedule contained in the 2018 Ofsted Inspection Handbook. In effect, we conducted an Ofsted Inspection on ourselves as part of the process of framing our development priorities for the coming year.
